PLAYING CATCH UP!!!


This is me trying to keep all the "balls in the air".  

So much has happened since my last blog that I decided I better just highlight them instead of writing a separate blog for each event we participated in. 

After Term Limits passed we decided to hold a party to celebrate and acknowledge the work we all did to get it passed. It was a bipartisan effort. We especially wanted to thank Zack Maxwell who originally got this project 
started.

Our Christmas party was next and we had great food and great conversations about all the work we did in 2018 and all the possibilities that were ahead of us.

We participated in our third Women's March in Ft. Worth, January 20, 2019!
The weather was chilly but not bad and the turnout was good.  It was so uplifting to see the how committed women are to work and turn our country back to our citizens.

In February, we were invited to join a meeting with the organizer of the Ft. Worth Represent.us group.  Represent.us is a country-wide group organizing to put Anti-Corruption and Transparency laws in all of our city/state charters to then join together to have those laws at the Federal Level to stop all the lobbying, corporate money, and big donors buying our representation in government!
More on that later.    WHEW!

PWA is 2 years Old!

We had a great time at our PWA Birthday party!  The food was excellent and I think we all got to know one another a little better.  By the conversation, it was clear that we all had the same thoughts about what is happening in our country.  It made our commitment to what we can do even stronger. This is a great group of women and, I for one, am so thrilled to be able to speak my mind around them and still feel heard and understood. We shared about how much there was to do before the November election and it is clear getting people to the polls is the most important task facing us. We will be working with GOTV and our several voter registrars will be really busy in the coming months. We voted on a new description for our group.  I thought it very moving. Check out the food table! Winner in our Beto Sign raffle!

MEETING WITH THE MAYOR

The mayor spent an hour and 15 minutes with Pat, Jill and me. He opened by describing himself as more of an old-school conservative– fiscally conservative, small-government guy – but socially liberal. In all, it was a cordial meeting and a good conversation – Pat tells me it was far more productive than meetings with the previous mayor. I left feeling that the mayor did a good job of “handling” us, but I never felt that we were being showboated, talked down to or dismissed as a bunch of crazy progressives. I felt like he actually listened, and he spent time explaining his views. I don’t agree with all of them and I’m still a bit wary on the official explanation for term limits, but that’s where we are. On term limits : Ross said the rush to put this on the ballot was spurred by a “lot” of emails that came in this summer urging the council to do something about term limits and soon. Postcard Party

Great fun party today addressing dissenting postcards to the Republic Senators regarding the President's choice of Kavanaugh for Supreme Court Justice.  We are appalled at the rush to get this man, who does not stand for what most Americans regard as our country's values, put on the highest court in the land. We are especially concerned at his opinion that a sitting President cannot be held accountable for his actions even if they are criminal! No one, not even the President, is above the law!  I am sure we will have more postcard parties in the near future!
