The election is over and our Term Limits project WON!  Citizens of Arlington voted 63% YES to the 37% NO!  It was terribly exciting and we have been thrilled for the last two days.

Of course, it won’t be implemented until the May 2019 city election when three long-term (15 to 17 years) city council people, must resign.  We will be looking for some good people to run to fill those spaces. So, contact us if you are interested. In 2020, two more must go.

We do expect some "push back" as we have heard that the Mayor and the Council will be looking at some way to overturn Prop E, as it was called on the election ballot. We have even heard there maybe a lawsuit,  But, that probably is just a rumor. We will continue to follow and post the "happing's " as they show up.

For now, it is a time to celebrate and rest.  But in the new year we will look forward to our next project which will be to get anti-corruption laws, gerrymandering voting districts, and dark money out of our city by creating more transparency in our local government.

We will do more Climate environment events and who knows what else?

PWA is 2 years Old!

We had a great time at our PWA Birthday party!  The food was excellent and I think we all got to know one another a little better.  By the conversation, it was clear that we all had the same thoughts about what is happening in our country.  It made our commitment to what we can do even stronger. This is a great group of women and, I for one, am so thrilled to be able to speak my mind around them and still feel heard and understood. We shared about how much there was to do before the November election and it is clear getting people to the polls is the most important task facing us. We will be working with GOTV and our several voter registrars will be really busy in the coming months. We voted on a new description for our group.  I thought it very moving. Postcard Party

Great fun party today addressing dissenting postcards to the Republic Senators regarding the President's choice of Kavanaugh for Supreme Court Justice.  We are appalled at the rush to get this man, who does not stand for what most Americans regard as our country's values, put on the highest court in the land. We are especially concerned at his opinion that a sitting President cannot be held accountable for his actions even if they are criminal! No one, not even the President, is above the law!  I am sure we will have more postcard parties in the near future!

MEETING WITH THE MAYOR

The mayor spent an hour and 15 minutes with Pat, Jill and me. He opened by describing himself as more of an old-school conservative– fiscally conservative, small-government guy – but socially liberal. In all, it was a cordial meeting and a good conversation – Pat tells me it was far more productive than meetings with the previous mayor. I left feeling that the mayor did a good job of “handling” us, but I never felt that we were being showboated, talked down to or dismissed as a bunch of crazy progressives. I felt like he actually listened, and he spent time explaining his views. I don’t agree with all of them and I’m still a bit wary on the official explanation for term limits, but that’s where we are.
