TERM LIMITS ON THE BALLOT!!

We began our Council meeting excited!  We were on the ballot!


Then some outright "shenanigans" began and the Mayor and Council tried everything to get another proposal on the ballot against ours.  We filed a lawsuit and a judge issued a restraining order against them putting their proposal on the ballot with ours. 

Time got short, several meetings called "emergency meetings" were scheduled to give time to the city to get their ballot on by the August 20th deadline.

At the first of those two meetings so many citizens came out demanding them to stop proving what the citizens of Arlington already knew.  That they didn't listen to us they did whatever they wanted to do without hearing what citizens wanted them to do in our community.

We couldn't believe it but they gave in!!!  Our petition would be the only one on the ballot on November 6th 2018!

At our next meeting, we celebrated a job well done even with all the fireworks!

YAY!

We had a great time at our PWA Birthday party!  The food was excellent and I think we all got to know one another a little better.  By the conversation, it was clear that we all had the same thoughts about what is happening in our country.  It made our commitment to what we can do even stronger. This is a great group of women and, I for one, am so thrilled to be able to speak my mind around them and still feel heard and understood. We shared about how much there was to do before the November election and it is clear getting people to the polls is the most important task facing us. We will be working with GOTV and our several voter registrars will be really busy in the coming months. We voted on a new description for our group.  I thought it very moving. MEETING WITH THE MAYOR

The mayor spent an hour and 15 minutes with Pat, Jill and me. He opened by describing himself as more of an old-school conservative– fiscally conservative, small-government guy – but socially liberal. In all, it was a cordial meeting and a good conversation – Pat tells me it was far more productive than meetings with the previous mayor. I left feeling that the mayor did a good job of “handling” us, but I never felt that we were being showboated, talked down to or dismissed as a bunch of crazy progressives. I felt like he actually listened, and he spent time explaining his views. I don’t agree with all of them and I’m still a bit wary on the official explanation for term limits, but that’s where we are. Postcard Party

Great fun party today addressing dissenting postcards to the Republic Senators regarding the President's choice of Kavanaugh for Supreme Court Justice.  We are appalled at the rush to get this man, who does not stand for what most Americans regard as our country's values, put on the highest court in the land. We are especially concerned at his opinion that a sitting President cannot be held accountable for his actions even if they are criminal! No one, not even the President, is above the law!  I am sure we will have more postcard parties in the near future!
